The superintendent of an Orchard Street apartment building is facing a felony charge, accused of tossing a cat from a fifth-floor fire escape on the morning of Sept 2.
Pedro Lopez-Clemente of 185 St. Joseph's Ave. was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
Detective Lt. Maureen Zadorozny, a police spokeswoman, said officers from the 4th Precinct were sent to 142 Orchard St. at 9:26 a.m. on a report of a man throwing a cat from a fire escape. When they arrived they saw Lopez-Clemente toss garbage from a fifth-floor fire escape, police said.
The officers found the seriously injured cat on the ground under the fire escape.
