Fallsburg police said the first time they were called to the Raleigh Hotel on Sept 1, worker Alonzo F. Telly, 41, had threatened people with a knife, but no one wanted to press charges.
Then they were called back at 12:30 p.m., when police say Telly killed a cat outside the hotel staff quarters.
Witnesses told Officer Jason Berger that Telly beat the cat with a hammer and then took out a pocket knife and cut the animal's throat. Berger said Telly buried the cat near the staff quarters fire escape.
Telly, originally of Coatesville, Pa., was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, a felony; and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned and sent to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, pending an appearance Sept. 12 in Fallsburg Town Court.
