Two Beech Island teens are facing animal cruelty charges after two dogs were chained to concrete blocks and drowned in a pond.
James Edwards and Eugene Edwards, both 18 and of the same Dicks Court address, were charged with cruelty to animals in late August 2005.
Both were released from the Aiken County Detention Center on $5,000 bond on Aug 27.
Authorities found the decomposing bodies of two dogs in a pond off Dicks Drive in Beech Island.
A sheriff's deputy and a county animal control officer pulled one of the dogs from the water, finding a "leash around the neck of the dog and attached at other end to cement blocks," according to a police report.
The teens were later arrested after confronted by authorities.
According to the report, one of the teens bragged to neighbors about drowning the dogs.
James Edwards initially told officers that he had nothing to do with drowning the dogs, but then confessed to watching it, the report states. After further questioning, he confessed to drowning one of the dogs.
Eugene Edwards arrived later at their home and also confessed to drowning one of the dogs.
Cruelty to animals is a felony punishable by as much as five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
