Animals abandoned in home, 3 weeks
Orefield, PA (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Aug 23, 2005
County: Lehigh

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Barbara Mobley

Investigators say the owner of a residence in the Little Wolf mobile home park hasn't been seen for three weeks. The animals were found living in excrement, feeding off of each other to survive."

The sole survivor of a litter of puppies waits in a Lehigh County Humane Society truck, investigators believe its litter mates were eaten by animals locked inside an Orefield home. Also found alive were two adult dogs, a cat, a lizard, turtle and some fish.

Among the piles of excrement and trash, investigators find the remains of an exotic bird, torn apart by the hungry animals, it's unknown how many animals were inside the home.

''The mobile home was covered in feces,'' said Orlando Aguirre, Humane Society police officer. ''It looked like the place was ransacked.''

Aguirre said the anonymous tipster told the Humane Society that the adult pit bulls had eaten other puppies, but he was unable to verify that. The dogs appeared to have survived on food and dog food left in the trailer.

The resident of the mobile home, Barbara Mobley, has not responded to the Humane Society's posting of notices at her home, Aguirre said.

She will be charged with six counts of cruelty, each carrying fines of $300 to $750, with 90 days in jail possible, police said. Aguirre said the Humane Society will seek the maximum penalty on all counts.
