Hoarding - dogs, snakes, 17 cats
Dunedin, FL (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Aug 20, 2005
County: Pinellas

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Mary Catherine Tauber

Catherine Tauber, 35, was arrested late Aug 20 and booked into the Pinellas County Jail on one count of child neglect and three counts of animal cruelty.

The child neglect charge stemmed from the living conditions in the small Virginia Street condominium Tauber shares with two teenage girls, according to Clearwater police reports.

Reports stated the girls were found sleeping in a bedroom with an odor of cat urine and ammonia and a closet floor covered in cat feces.

The kitchen sink was overflowing with dirty dishes, and the living room was filled with trash, dirty clothes and boxes. An unknown number of dogs, two snakes and 17 cats were living in the residence.

Three dogs were found in separate, dirty crates without food or water.

One dog was injured and was taken to an emergency veterinarian.

The Humane Society of Pinellas is caring for the dogs.

Tauber's bail was set at $110,000.

Wayne Shelor, Clearwater Police spokesman, said there were no reports of the girls being injured.

It was unclear where they were staying late Sunday.

Tauber has lived in Pinellas County at least 10 years and had no previous arrests for animal abuse or child neglect, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records.
