Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » Dwayne Baker » Corey Flowers
Two Benton County deputies accused of stealing a Henry County woman's dogs were arraigned Aug 11 on the charges.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation charged deputies Dwayne Baker and Corey Flowers on Aug 9 with aggravated burglary, theft over $500 and vandalism under $500 in the incident. The first two charges are felonies.
The deputies are accused of breaking into the home of a woman on Muzzal Road in Mansfield, in Henry County, on the evening of Aug 9 and taking her two pit bulls.
Both were suspended without pay pending investigation. The men had their cases set for 9 a.m. Oct. 4 in Henry County General Sessions Court, a clerk said Thursday.
Flowers also is accused of assaulting and severely injuring a Benton County dispatcher Tuesday evening in a fight with her at her Camden home. He has been charged with aggravated assault. His next court date is Sept. 28.
Authorities have said the dogs were returned to their owner. John Mehr, TBI special agent in charge, said the dogs were being checked to determine whether they were injured. He had no further comments Thursday about their condition. He also would not comment on how authorities got the dogs back.
Benton County Sheriff Cecil Wells said the owner signed a document when she picked the dogs up indicating they were OK.
A veterinarian, Dr. Elizabeth Paschall, said she checked on the welfare of the dogs for a county humane society.
Paschall, of the Camden Animal Clinic, said the dogs were taken to their regular vet at the Huntingdon Animal Clinic. The vet who checked them faxed her paperwork indicating, ''they were fine,'' Paschall said. References« TN State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Benton County, TN
