Two dogs that were recently left chained to a house to starve to death have been taken in by the humane society, and are raising awareness for animal neglect.

Pablo and Precious, the two rotweilers which suffered the abuse, are in the middle of being nursed back to health. Authorities say the dogs were tied up for so long, the chains hold them to the house were embedded into one of their necks.

They were found in early August, and sources at the Jacksonville Humane Society say they were just skin and bones when they were brought in.

"Precious was the only one who had an actual skin injury from that and it's healing beautifully, says Dr. Kelly Rada. Pablo is very lucky the chains didn't penetrate his skin."

Doctors operated to carefully remove the chain from Precious neck. It had been a part of her neck for so long that the metal was actually embedded in her skin, down to the muscle.

That is how the dogs were discovered in an abandoned house on the Northside, where their owner did the unthinkable and left them behind to suffer.

"The biggest obstacle for them is they're going to need four weeks of someone caring for them, says Dr. Rada.

Doctors say Pablo is doing just fine, and Precious is nursing a case of the flu. Pablo should be ready to find a new home soon, but doctors say the harsh treatment may have had a poor effect on Precious.

If you are interested in getting more information on Pablo, or other dogs available for adoption, call the Jacksonville Humane Society at 725-8766.

So far, there have been no arrests in connection with this case of animal abuse.
