A Romeoville man who has been accused of starving two dogs was in Will County court on Aug 10. Christopher J. Rhodes, 25, of 209 Pell Ave. has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals. He allegedly did not feed the animals regularly, authorities said. One of the emaciated animals found at his home died, and one survived, authorities said. Rhodes' bond was set at $10,000, and he posted $1,000, the required 10 percent.

While in court, Rhodes pleaded not guilty. His case was assigned to Judge Robert Livas' courtroom. Rhodes will return to court at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 28.


Case Updates

A man pleaded guilty on April 3 to starving two pet dogs last year. Now Judge Robert Livas could punish Christopher Rhodes, 31, of 209 Pell Ave., Romeoville, with a sentence ranging from probation to three years in prison.

Rhodes was arrested in August and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals. He did not feed them regularly, and one of the emaciated dogs died. The other survived.

Represented by Jason Strzelecki, Rhodes' trial was scheduled to begin Monday afternoon, but he pleaded guilty instead.

Livas scheduled Rhodes' sentencing hearing for 9:30 a.m. June 6.

Rhodes was in Judge Robert Livas' courtroom Wednesday. Will County Assistant State's Attorney Nicole Moore asked the judge to make Rhodes take a drug test. The police report on the animal cruelty case indicated Rhodes used illegal drugs, she said. The judge agreed.
