Twenty fighting roosters and 50 chicks were seized from a basement apartment in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx. The birds were taken to the ASPCA on the Upper East Side.

The owner, 70-year-old Andres Rosario, has been charged with animal cruelty. Animal control officers say the birds were altered for fighting. Officers also seized syringes, scales and other paraphernalia used in cockfighting.
