Dog's eyes gouged out, left to die
Fayetteville, NC (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Jun 28, 2005
County: Cumberland

Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

A Fayetteville man says his dog was brutally tortured and killed. Now Ronald Lambert says the person behind the crime needs to pay for the death of his best friend.

For the last four and a half years, Ronald Lambert has shared his home with his best friend, a little Pekingese he called Baby. But Baby disappeared on June 28th.

"We heard a noise in the den on the night she disappeared and it sounded like hmmm, hmmm, hmmm but we thought it was under the house," Lambert explained. "We got a flashlight, but didn't see anything."

A month after Baby went missing, Lambert noticed a strange odor outside of his house. That's when Baby's body was discovered.

"The dog had its eyes punched out, and pushed into the air vent system," Lambert continued. "She wandered around aimlessly for days upon days with no food or water."

Lambert says it's almost unbearable to think how much pain Baby was in, and that someone could to this to an animal. He thinks he knows who that someone is. At the time of Baby's disappearance, Lambert was renting out a room in his home to a man that expressed he couldn't stand the dog and wanted to kill it.

"Knowing that when you befriend someone and they betray you in this manner it's hard to have faith in human people again," Lambert added.

Lambert now spends time visiting Baby's grave in his backyard. He says he just wishes he could have done more to protect his little friend.

Fayetteville police are investigating, but have not yet issued an arrest warrant.
