A stolen puppy is safe back with its mother at the Humane Society and two people are in jail after what police said was a premeditated dog heist. Two St. Johns County sheriff's deputies spotted Clarence Crews, 22, come out of the Humane Society carrying the puppy and jumping the fence.
They said he got into a car driven by Jennifer Briggs, 32, and drove away.
After they were arrested, Briggs told investigators that he took the puppy because he didn't want to abide by the Humane Society's regulation to have it neutered.
Crews is charged with burglary and Briggs is charged with accessory.
The Humane Society told local media that they are glad the puppy is back and will eventually go to a good home. They said they've already had interest in the dog, but it's not old enough to be adopted. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
