From Aug. 19 to Sept. 28, Kate Downing Road resident Donna Roberts reported that 11 cats in the area -- including 10 belonging to her -- have been killed, either by a bullet or antifreeze (which is poisonous to cats.)
Plainfield Animal Control Officer Theresa Foss said that she has been investigating the case for more than a month, but there are few leads. Since Sept. 28, there have been no further reports of murdered felines, Foss said.
Roberts and her grandfather live on 88 acres of farmland off Kate Downing Road. While many of the cats living on her property are strays, one family cat from a nearby residence also was shot.
The humane society is offering a $1500 reward for information leading to a conviction as part of the organization's "First Strike" campaign, a program aimed at raising public awareness on animal cruelty.
