Dog neglect, meth lab, child neglect
Keizer, OR (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Aug 4, 2005
County: Marion

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Matthew Eckstrom

Keizer police arrested two people after finding a portable methamphetamine lab in a van and a drug lab in an apartment, an official said. Officers responded about noon Aug 4 to a trespassing call in the 600 block of Lockhaven Drive NE and found Matthew Eckstrom, 42, Keizer police Sgt. Jeff Isham said.

Eckstrom was wanted on outstanding warrants, but he claimed to be someone else, Isham said. Officers agreed to follow Eckstrom to his van, where he claimed to have identification but Eckstrom ran.

Officers caught him a few blocks away and arrested him. Eckstrom told officers that a 5-year-old child was in the apartment he fled, and officers discovered a Rottweiler dog in Eckstrom's van.

Officers obtained search warrants for the van and apartment, and members of the police Community Response Unit disassembled drug-making labs inside of each, Isham said. Eckstrom was booked on several charges, including escape, identity theft, child and animal neglect, and drug charges.

Rebecca Kaye Calhoun, 33, the mother of the child, was arrested later Aug 4 on charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
