John and Delphine Kell hired Adam Wiza to work on their sunroom. Wiza says he saw an air-conditioned kennel in the back yard, so he peeked in. What Wiza saw next urged him to call the police.

"The smell, it was the smell of death. It was pretty nasty," said Wiza. "The whole kennel was a mess. It was torn up. There was dog droppings everywhere. It was pretty gross," said Wiza.

"It was two separate, dead animals," said Wiza. "It was the most gruesome thing I'd ever seen," he added.

Clay County Sheriffs Office says one dog died recently and a second dog died so long ago, it was beginning to decompose.

"There was one that was still alive," said Wiza. "It was pretty skinny. It had a bloated stomach," he added.

That dog is in county custody.

"My dogs are my babies. They are my life. Anybody that knows me, that knows my dogs, knows the way that I am with my dogs," said Delphine Kell.

Kell has several American Kennel Club ribbons and photos of her dogs. She says she's bred and sold dogs for more than 15 years.

In response the seizure of the dogs, Kell said, "[one dog] passed away from natural causes. The other dog, because its being investigated, I have no comment on."

Deputies are investigating, the Kells for animal cruelty. No one has been charged.
