Cherokee County prosecutors charged a man on Aug 4 with cruelty to animals after he shot a neighbor's dog. Authorities say Greg Scott, 33, killed a Labrador retriever pup owned by Jack Rhodes. Sheriff's Deputy John E. Wofford was dispatched to the call and spoke with Scott, who allegedly said he returned home and found Rhodes' dog "breeding" his own canine.
Both dogs were on Scott's property when Rhodes' dog was shot twice with a .22-caliber rifle last month.
A felony warrant has been issued for Scott's arrest, and a $4,000 bond was set. A preliminary hearing will be set after Scott is formally arraigned.
Cruelty to animals is punishable by a fine of up to $500 and/or imprisonment for up to five years. First Assistant District Attorney Donovan Dobbs is prosecuting the case. References « More cases in Cherokee County, OK
