Iguana's face removed
unknown, MN (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Mar 6, 2002

Disposition: Not Charged

Person of Interest: 12 year old boy

An iguana was presented to the Minnesota Herpetological Society adoption coordinator, Sarah Richard on Wednesday, 3/6/02.  This iguana's face was reportedly removed piece by piece while it was fully conscious by a twelve year old child.  It was immediately euthanized upon arrival of Richard's vet.

Humane officers and animal control officers visited the home and determined that there are no other animals present.  The child is reportedly severely disturbed and is receiving professional help.  They are considering outplacing the child because of severe problems. The child's mother was reportedly cooperative and assured the humane officers that the child will have no further contact with reptiles.  Follow up will be done to assure that child is receiving treatment and no other animals are placed in jeopardy.
