Police in Florida found nearly 100 cats and dogs living in a house when they carried out a drug search.

A police spokeswoman said Bonita Reid, who lived at the house in St Johns County, has been charged with animal cruelty.

The St Augustine Humane Society removed some of the cats and dogs but said they could not house all of them.

Herbert Nicholas, of Matanzas River Animal Hospital, told the St Augustine Record the animals were neglected and suffering from parasite problems and were physically weak.

One man, who was a tenant at the home, was arrested on drug-related charges.
