Two men were arrested on July 26 for allegedly killing and butchering an alligator at the Heritage Greens Golf Club earlier in the month. Mark Metzger, 34, and Fred Rowe, 42, face charges of animal cruelty and unlawful taking of an alligator, both Third Degree felonies.
Fish & Wildlife officers were called on July 3rd and told of a stolen "live capture alligator trap," along with an alligator, from a golf club pond.
FWC investigators say Metzger and Rowe, both maintenance workers at the club, admitted to dragging the 7-foot alligator behind a golf cart to a building on the property.
There, they allegedly used a filet knife to remove the animals tail and other meat.
The men said the alligator was alive when they found it, but died while being dragged to the maintenance building.
Each man faces up to five years in jail and/or up to a $5,000 fine for each charge. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
