Clinton Township, MI (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Aug 2, 1992
County: Macomb

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged:
» Harold Henry Long
» Charles Taylor Johnson

Harold Henry Long, 19, of White Cloud and Charles Taylor Johnson, 31, of Napakiak, Alaska, have been charged with killing a friend's pet cat because it woke them up a 5:00 a.m. Judge William H. Cannon has charged them for malicious destruction of an animal.

They were sent to the Macomb Jail under a bail of $10,000 bond each to await additional hearings. If they are convicted, they can be sentenced to a maximum of four-years in prison.

Long and Johnson allegedly killed the cat Sunday after the animal woke them up before dawn. "It was up howling at night. You know how cats like to howl?"

Lt. Porter said one of them jumped on the cat's stomach and the other one said it wasn't dead, grabbed it by the tail and slammed it against the cement. After the cat was killed they tried to get rid of it by putting it into the garbage disposal at their friend's home in the Clinton Township apartment.

Porter said the cat was a pet of Ronald Holder who lived at the Peachtree Apartments on Groesbeck at Weybridge.

Officers were called to the apartment and they found the remains of a cat in the garbage disposal.
