Stephen Amos, 47, Jonathon Lock, 27 and Paul Evans, 24, have all been dismissed from their jobs at a B&Q home improvement store in Wales over allegations they fired an air rifle at a stray cat.
The staff at the store claim their manager, Stephen Amos, ordered the two workers to "get rid of that cat," when he was called out in the early hours of the morning when the burglar alarm had gone off twice.
The stray cat, Smokey, had been adopted by the staff had not been seen since. They fear he might have been killed. The workers who witnessed the alleged incident said the cat was cornered and placed in a box. The last time they saw Smokey was when Lock and Evans carried him out shouting "We are going to finish him off for good."
B&Q said after an investigation at the store "It was found that the actions of the three people involved were unacceptable and all three members of the staff were dismissed."
The three workers have denied injuring Smokey and claim they just put him outside and he ran off.
All three are taking legal advice over their dismissal. Lock said "We are disgusted at being sacked over a cat. We caught it and let it go." References- The Electronic Telegraph - Home News - Mar 5, 1996
