An unidentified 16-year old boy set fire to a kitten called Muffin after arguing about a football with other children. He used a cigarette lighter to set the kitten on fire.
The male kitten survived its burns of a singed coat and whiskers. The kitten was turned over to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
Sergeant Anna Ruzinski with the Milwaukee Police Department said, "The boy picked up a 4 to 6-week old kitten that belonged to his neighbors and used a lighter to ignite the kitten's fur."
The 16-year old has been arrested on possible charges of arson and cruelty to animals. He does not have a juvenile record.
The dispute began around 4:30 p.m. between the boy and other children who were upstairs in a duplex in the 2500 block of North 17th Street.
The boy allegedly stuck a match through the mail slot in a door leading to the upper unit. Flames ignited a curtain but the the upstairs residents put the fire out.
