A 24-year-old Waverly man was charged on Monday, July 18 with cruelty to animals for allegedly abusing his 13-week-old puppy. Humane officers said Christopher Stout, of Clark Street, hit and kicked the puppy and failed to clean cat litter pans at his home, according to a news release from Stray Haven Humane Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

On July 10, officers with a warrant seized the puppy and seven cats.

Stout was issued a ticket to appear in Village Court. If convicted, he could face up to a year in jail, a $1,000 fine or both, the news release said.

According to reports, Stout has prior convictions for theft and assault.
