Britt Sensat, Danny L. Crane and Ryan Walters , all 17, admitted to Wharton County sheriff's investigators their involvement in killing a cat called the Koym Road Kid or Tiger on March 16. A 16-year old unidentified male involved in the death of Tiger agreed to a similar form of probation within the juvenile criminal justice system.

The stray cat was considered a mascot by the younger ball players at Koym Field. She was fed and cared for by concession stand operators. The three high school ball players were said to be upset with the messes Tiger left around the field.

Sensat, Crane, Walters and an unidentified 16-year old admitted putting Tiger into a bag, heating her with bats, then running over the carcass with a pickup. Tiger's body was then dumped into a creek bed. The investigators said two other baseball players took the body from the creek and then threw it in the San Bernard River because they were afraid their friends would get into trouble.

All four members of the East Bernard High School baseball squad were charged with animal cruelty and kicked off their championship team after admitting beating the cat, Tiger, to death with bats. Tiger was a gray tabby.

The cat killing has caused many people to side with the baseball players who killed the cat and others in the community responded with revulsion at what was done to the cat and are dismayed at those who favored going easy on the ballplayers.

The three 17-year old defendants were scheduled to appear in court last week but the hearing has been postponed to June.

Pam Michulka, who works in her husband's Richmond law office, filed the original complaint in the death of Tiger. Pam had befriended Tiger and often took food to the cat. Pam said, "I wanted to look those boys in the face in the courtroom. They obviously are not sorry. They're sorry they got caught. They're not setting an example for other students by them not having to make a public court appearance. I don't think the people of East Bernard have heard the last of this."

The four former baseball players who beat the cat to death with bats will serve six months probation and do 40 hours of unspecified community service. If the teens fulfill their probation requirements which include community service and $347 in fines and court costs, prosecutors might move to dismiss. Each teen also has to pay $40 a month to the probation department.
