Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

Toni Marina said two of her cats are dead, four missing, four seriously wounded and one is unharmed. Police have said the cats were shot with BB pellets - some pellets were found at the scene.

Marina doesn't know who shot the cats. She kept several cats in an 8 x 12 foot structure just outside her home. She doesn't know exactly when her cats were shot, but believes it could have been about 10:30 pm Oct 8 or before 7am on Oct 9. Her dog, Tara, was barking the night of Oct 8 around 10 p.m. to go outside. When she took the dog outside, it was dark and quiet. Marina didn't think any more of it.

Marina said as she was rushing to work, she noticed one cat was dead and because she was rushing to work she left the food and went on her way. When she returned in the afternoon, she saw the second dead cat inside the structure, four wounded and four missing.

Marina took the wounded animals to the Quakertown Veterinary Clinic for emergency surgery. That night she searched nearly 20 acres for the missing cats in hope she could rush them to the vet if they were hurt.

The Richland police are saying the investigation is in its early stages.

Case Updates

Autopsies on two pet cats found last week on a Richland Township property show they had been repeatedly stabbed to death. Quakertown Veterinary Clinic in Milford Township performed the autopsies. These cats were among 11 cats that lived on a 20-acre property owned by Toni Marina.

Anne Irwin, executive directory of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said it is a first-degree misdemeanor and carries a two-year maximum prison term. An SPCA investigator is on the case and talking with people in the neighborhood. Irwin said, "We think animal cruelty cases are important. A connection has been shown between animal cruelty and other kinds of violence."
