William Peterson, 55, of 5 S. 2nd St., Dennison, has been charged with discharging a firearm within the corporation after he allegedly shot and killed a neighbors two pit bull dogs on December 7, 2002.

According to Ptl. Seth Lurie, a report of the incident will also be sent to the village solicitor for possible animal cruelty charges.

The owner of the pit bulls summoned police to his residence at 8:34 a.m. after he heard two gunshots and when he went outside he discovered one of his dogs dead in front of a nearby residence and the other one dead in the rear of his residence.

Police said the dogs appeared to have been shot with pellet rounds from a shotgun.

During the investigation, police said Peterson admitted shooting the dogs, claiming that he believed his own dog was being attacked by them. Officers added that the owner of the pit bulls was cited by the dog warden for letting the animals run at large.
