Cat beaten to death

Springfield police are investigating the violent death of a stray cat on June 20. At around 9:13 a.m., police were called to the 1300 block of R Street, where three male juveniles under the age of 10 were reportedly observed beating a young black cat with their fists.

The children allegedly left the cat for dead, and stuffed it in a box. After a neighbor called police, the cat was transported it to McKenzie Animal Hospital, where it died.

Police continue to investigate the incident, which has so far pinned down the involvement of one 6-year-old male.
