A Tri-State veterinarian is facing animal cruelty charges for the way she allegedly treated her own animals.

A Warren County Humane Association investigator searched the Cumminses' 2-acre property in Washington Township on a warrant last week after observing the horses, a dead cat, dogs and cats that appeared malnourished and large amounts of fecal matter inside a barn.

Two horses and two ponies were taken this week from the Loveland home of Dr. Diane Cummins, WLWT Eyewitness News 5 reported.

The horses are being cared for by Amy Fugate and members of the Warren County Humane Association.

"When we picked them up their bones were sticking out," Fugate said. "Their ribs were showing. Their hooves were in pretty bad shape."

Fugate said that the animals suffered from dehydration and malnutrition.

Cummins and her husband, Leslie, are scheduled to appear in court Thursday. They face fines and jail time, and Diane Cummins's medical license could be suspended or revoked, WLWT reported.

Six years ago, the Ohio Veterinary Board suspended Diane Cummins' license for problems at a clinic where she worked.

Licensing board records show Dr. Cummins was cited in 1996 for gross incompetence, failure to conform to minimum standards of care, sanitary conditions at the clinic, improper administration of drugs and failure to keep proper drug records.

In addition to the suspension, she was fined $275 and placed on probation for one year, which expired Sept. 9, 1997.
