Cat's throat slit
Talent, OR (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Apr 3, 2002
County: Jackson

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Joshua Caleb Brewer

Joshua Caleb Brewer, 21, has been accused of killing a cat by slitting it's throat with a butcher knife over an open Bible. Brewer said Jesus told him to kill the animal.

The cat was a white Persian called Precious and belonged to the man's girl friend. The cat was killed in the bedroom of the trailer they shared.

The police discovered the dead cat on April 3 when they responded to a disorderly conduct call at the trailer home. Brewer's girl friend was in the hospital and her sister stopped by the trailer to feed the cats and dogs.

The sister got into an argument with Brewer and called police when he wouldn't leave the home.

Inside the home, the phone connection was broken, food was thrown around and the cat was found under the kitchen table.

In the bedroom the Bible was opened to Jeremiah, chapter 17. Blood was thrown around. A trail of blood led from the Bible to the kitchen.

Brewer was found about five blocks away from the trailer with his hands covered in blood.

Brewer has been placed in the Jackson County jail on $55,000 bail. When he was asked about the cat he admitted he killed it. When asked why, he looked at the person and laughed.

Police were called three weeks ago when Brewer walked into the fire department and announced he was the new capitain. He was taken to the hospital.
