Child Protective Services is investigating a local mother after she was charged with animal cruelty and neglect. Police were called to the home in the 5100 block of Village Court to find two pit bull puppies living in filthy conditions and with no food or water.

Five children were also discovered in the home, which one officer described as unlivable.

The mother says she was out of work and unable to feed the dogs. She was arrested and later released. The children were turned over to their grandmother. CPS is investigating.
