A Seminole County man wants to know who killed two of his miniature donkeys.

It was reported that Detectives stated the latest was shot at close range, possibly with a shotgun.

First, a male named Patches was killed, then on June 14, a female named Brighty was shot and killed.

"She also miscarried a baby, too, which was upsetting. This would have been the first one we would have had out of them, so it would have been good," said the owner.

Stray bullets aren't that uncommon in the rural part of Geneva where Hughes lives. In fact, two have flown right through the front of Hughes's house, but when it comes to his donkeys, Hughes says this was no accident.

"I think it's just something to do. I was hoping the first time was an accident, and that would be the last of it," he stated.

But after a second shooting within a week and a half, the retired Seminole County court deputy reported it. His former department has opened up a criminal animal cruelty investigation, but so far, there are no suspects.

Detectives with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office said it looks like the latest donkey to be shot was shot up close in the chest, possibly with a shotgun.
