A kitten with a broken back was found June 14 at night at Short Beach in Stratford. Officers found an orange kitten unable to move its back legs near the pathway leading from Riverdale Drive at 8:45 p.m.
The kitten was taken to Shoreline Animal Hospital, where it was determined the cat would have to be euthanized because its back was broken, possibly by a blow from a baseball bat.
Officers interviewed a group of youths, who said other youths had gone to the beach a few days earlier with a BB gun, looking for animals to kill.
