6 Basset Griffon Vendeen hounds stolen
Berkhamsted, EN (UK)

Incident Date: Thursday, Jun 16, 2005

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Six rare Basset Griffon Vendeen hounds were stolen by thieves who broke into the kennels owned by Crufts judge Viv Phillips.

But Viv, 62, said the two dogs and four bitches, one of which is pregnant, were only valuable to a breeder.

"The dogs are quite valuable, but they're not a well-known breed that can be moved quickly.

"They look cute but few people are going to want one for a lot of money."

Dognapping is one of the country's fastest growing crimes with 40,000 owners a year being robbed of their pets.

Viv, whose kennels are on the National Trust's Ashridge Estate near Berkhamsted, Herts added: "I desperately want my dogs back."
