Two children could face animal cruelty charges for allegedly stoning three chickens to death at Cobblestone Farms in Ann Arbor, according to a report in The Ann Arbor News.

A caretaker at the farm, located in the 2700 block of Packard Road, said he witnessed a boy throwing a rock into a barn with the chickens on the afternoon of June 5, the paper reported. The man yelled to the 14-year-old boy, and saw him run off with an 11-year-old girl and climb a fence, according to the report.

The children had left their bicycles at the barn. The caretaker had told them he would not return their bicycles until they returned with their parents, the paper reported.

The caretaker then discovered the dead chickens, and found two more with broken legs, the paper reported. At least 10 rocks were also found near the chickens.

When the boy returned to retrieve his bicycle, he denied throwing the rocks, the paper reported. He instead stated he was retrieving his swimming goggles he had accidentally thrown near the barn.

The girl later admitted that both children threw rocks at the chickens, the paper reported.

The caretaker said the chickens were in good health when he left the barn earlier in the day.

No further information was available regarding the charges.
