A local man pleaded guilty in Bryan Municipal Court yesterday to a charge of cruelty to animals after he left a dog tied to a tree without enough food, water, or adequate shelter.

After Kenneth J. Compo pleaded guilty, Judge Kent North ordered a precidence investigation.

Williams County sheriff's deputies responded on Tuesday to a complaint of a neglected animal on State Rt. 576. They found a "severely neglected" German shepherd tied to a tree. When it was taken to a local animal hospital, the thin, 43-pound animal was found to have hookworm.
