Officers with the Oswego County Sheriff's Department arrested Marnie L. Burghdurf, 26, of Rathburn Road, Fulton, on May 16, and charged her with a violation of the New York State Agriculture and Market Law, a class-A misdemeanor, following an investigation into report of animal cruelty received May 14. Police said the victim of the alleged cruelty, a black Labrador dog that is approximately two years old, was found without food, water or shelter. Burghdurf was charged with failing to provide proper sustenance to the dog. Members of OCAWL-SPCA assisted in the investigation and transported the dog to obtain treatment. Burgdurf was issued an appearance ticket to answer the charge in Granby Town Court May 23.
On June 1, Marnie Burghdurf pleaded guilty to animal abuse. Her dog Stitch, was found starving to death in May 2005, outside a home in Granby. The 2-year old dog was found starving, weighing just 30 lbs.
Later, x-rays on the dog showed he had a bullet lodged in his back. Burghdurf will be back in court July 25th for sentencing. She faces a thousand dollar fine and a year in prison.
