Toriano A. Johnson, 21, was arrested by police after his dogs killed two 6-week old kittens belonging to a neighbor. Johhson was also seen by police abusing several of his pit bull puppies in an apparent act of defiance.
Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Mike Reed said "His attitude was that it was his property and his dogs and he could do what he wanted." Reed said Johnson allegedly threw one puppy to the ground and slammed another against a concrete wall.
A call was made by Johnson's neighbors in the block of 1200 of Northeast Sixth Avenue complaining the dogs had attacked their kittens. When the police arrived, they saw two pit bulls standing in the neighbor's yard with two dead kittens.
When the police asked Johnson for identification he responded by yelling obsenities and racial comments. Johnson also threatened the officers saying they were "not the only ones with guns."
Johnson then allegedly bent over and pulled down his pants, exposing his buttocks.
When Police Sgt Miller tried to arrest Johnson he started to struggle, flailing his arms and refused to put his hands behind his back.
Johnson's dogs' pen was filled with dog feces and the dogs' food was covered with ants rendering it not fit for the dogs to eat.
One adult dog and several of the puppies had untreated bite marks on their faces and bodies. All of Johnson's dogs were taken to Broward County Animal Care and Regulation.
Johnson was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals, resisting arrest without violence, disorderly conduct and corruption by a threat against a public servant.
He was released from the Broward County Jail after posting $22,775 bail.
A neighbor and friend of Johnson's said the 21-year old doesn't abuse his dogs. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
