Kitten doused with diesel fuel, set on fire
Gervais, OR (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Jul 31, 2000
County: Marion

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A 12-week old stray kitten was doused with diesel fuel and set on fire near Gervais. There are no suspects in this crime but it is being investigated by the Humane Society.

The kitten has been named Purr Purr by the veterinarians who are taking care of her. She is at the Companion Pet Clinic in Woodburn. "She's eating a little and purring a lot, but it's unclear how long she'll live. She is on pain medication and antibiotics."

The abuse is a felony that could carry a prison sentence. But, so far, no law enforcement officials are investigating the crime.

The only witness speaks little English and did not report the crime to the police. Zotik Koshkaroff said "I saw it for two seconds, like a rolling ball, didn't know what it was. Then cat says, 'Meow.'" He was just getting out of a Russian Old Believer church at the time.

The clinic does not euthanize animals unless absolutely necessary and they will continue to take care of Purr Purr unless someone wants to adopt her.

Tammy Stetson at the clinic says, "The sad thing is, all she wants is your attention. She purrs and rubs on you."
