Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
Precious, an 11-year old cat was killed by having his neck broken and his stomach slit open.
The owner of Precious, Emerita Bergtholdt, age 69, has always been a cat and dog lover. She is offering a reward of $1,000 for any information leading to the cat's killer. A St Charles businessman who heard about the killing, Bob Poynter, also added $500 more to the bounty.
Last Friday she let her dog, Snow, and Precious out about 10:00 p.m. When she heard strange noises and giggles she saw three or four children running into a nearby woods. Precious was found dead.
Bergtholdt called the St Louis County Police and they are investigating the incident.
Animal abuse is a felony punishable by two to five years in prison. Bergtholdt said she was more concerned about getting psychological help for the culprits.
"I am just so enthused about getting these boys before it's too late. They've got to have help. That's the only sense we're getting out of this. It had to happen to some family who really cared to pursue this, to get these kids taken off the streets."
