40 to 50 cats abandoned in home
Little Rock, AR (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, May 19, 2005
County: Pulaski

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Kay Watson

Little Rock Animal Services workers spent most of May 19 trying to rescue cats from a home at 12300 Shawnee Forest Drive. Neighbors say the owner, Kay Watson, moved out in December and left 40 to 50 cats behind.

They say she comes by the house every once in a while to feed them, but doesn`t care for them.

Animal services workers had to wear the fire department`s air tanks to go into the house because the cat feces on the floor smelled so bad.

The rescue workers were able to catch seven cats on May 19, and will be back out on may 10 to try to catch the 10 to 15 felines still in the home.

The owner is now facing charges for having more than four cats inside the house, plus unsanitary conditions. Watson also faces nine counts of animal neglect.

Watson pleaded not guilty on May 26, 2005 to charges she violated city codes by having too many cats in her home, with them living in extremely unhealthy conditions. Neighbors on Shawnee Forest Drive complained of a horrible smell coming from the home.

She`ll be back in court in June.
