Someone shot Gary Hirsch's Siberian husky's leg with a 4-inch blow dart. The dog, named Mikaila, was hit either May 16 or 17.

"She's usually the first one to come out and play," Hirsch said. "She's always been sociable, outgoing and full of energy. Now, it's just nothing."

The yellow blow dart Hirsch found in Mikaila s left rear leg is similar to four green darts shot into a cat found in Glendale on May 10. One of the darts was lodged millimeters below its eye socket, barely missing the brain. It was surgically removed, and the cat is now up for adoption. The Denver Dumb Friends League is offering a $2,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest of the person who shot the cat.

Judy Calhoun, spokeswoman for the Dumb Friends League, said authorities can't say whether the two cases are related.

"Until we investigate and talk to the dog owner, we can't connect the two cases," she said.

Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis said there was no reason to believe the two incidents are connected.

Early May 17, Hirsch said he heard commotion outside his front gate.
