Three people were arrested and charged May 22, 2005 with organized dog fighting and cruelty to animals, police stated.

At about 4:45 p.m., Hampton police went to the home near the corner of Walnut Street and Shawen Drive, and saw at least two dogs fighting and another dog standing to the side. Four people were encouraging the dogs, police stated.

Cynthia Kay Curry, 44, Lushawn Beneie Carolina, 18, and Kelvino Breon Hunter, 18, were charged with organized dog fighting and cruelty to animals. Tracy Arleaene Curry, 39, was charged with disturbing the peace. Animal control picked up the three dogs and treated them for their injuries.

Case Updates

According to court records, Lushawn Beneie Carolina, 18, pled guilty to one felony count of promoting dog-fighting on October 11, 2005. His three-year penitentiary sentence was suspended, and he was placed on three years� probation and ordered to pay a $650.00 fine.

Lushawn Carolina is now facing a probation violation. On April 19, 2006, charges were filed alleging that he was in possession of cocaine and carrying a concealed firearm. Carolina will appear in court on May 9, 2007 on the new charges, as well as the probation violation on the original dog-fighting case.

Co-defendant Kelvino B. Hunter was found guilty of promoting dog-fighting by jury trial on January 31, 2006. He was ordered to pay fines and fees totaling $4,531.00.

Charges were dismissed against Cynthia Curry.
