Two Indiana teens discover their home was broken into, and their two dogs were stabbed to death. Tina Schneider's children found the animals just a few feet away from their house on Watt Road in Union County on the afternoon of May 17.

The dogs, named Cooper and Sis, had been stabbed several times with a wine cooler bottle.

Police arrested a 14-year-old boy.

Police said the teen cut up Tina Schneider's dogs with a broken bottle. She said her sons came home and discovered blood on the porch. They found the dogs dead in the woods next to their home in Brownsville.

"There was blood splattered everywhere," a distraught Schneider said. "I know they suffered. To do what he did is unforgiveable. The boy needs help."

The teen also broke into the home and ransacked it, police said. He allegedly knocked holes in the walls, urinated on a mattress and stole several items.

Schneider said the teen and her son were friends, but when the teen allegedly tried to take the family's Ford Expedition for a joyride, she forbade her son to associate with him.

The family buried the dogs near their house. Schneider broke into tears as she stood next to the graves.

The teen is being held at the Henry County Youth Detention Center.

Union County prosecutors said they would charge him with burglary and animal cruelty.

A 15-year-old Union County boy who admitted in June to killing two dogs and burglarizing a West Watt Road home received a suspended sentence on Monday to the Indiana Department of Corrections Boys School.

The juvenile won't go free. He was ordered to complete an in-patient commitment at the Youth Opportunity Center in Muncie, Union Circuit Judge Matthew Cox said. The program typically lasts from nine to 12 months, Cox said. The youth will receive one-on-one counseling and will also attend classes at the center, he said.

Indiana Medicaid will pay almost 75 percent of the cost of the commitment, Cox said. The remaining portion may fall to the county.

The boy will be 16 in October and will remain on probation until age 18, Cox said. He's been held in secure detention since his arrest in May. If he fails to complete his commitment or violates conditions of probation he can be sent to the Boys School, Cox said.

The boy was charged with committing delinquent acts that would have been felony charges if committed by an adult, including burglary, a Class C felony, and two counts of animal cruelty, residential entry and criminal mischief, Class D felonies.

At a hearing in June, the boy admitted killing the two small dogs owned by Tina and Greg Schneider on West Watt Road with a broken glass bottle. A DVD player, some clothing and a bottle of wine that didn't belong to the boy were found in his room after police questioned his family following the investigation at the Schneider residence.

Officers said at the time of the youth's arrest that there had been a "falling out" between the youth and the Schneiders' children after he took one of the Schneider's vehicles for a joy ride.
