In October 2004, the Langfords returned to their Wilkinson County home to find the family dog dead in the front yard with its mouth bound. The man arrested for the crime was the next door neighbor. His trial was held on May 16, 2005 where a judge found him guilty of aggravated cruelty to animals.

In addition, Jimmy Rozier has must take part in community service. In court, Rozier told the family he was sorry for what he did, and he knows what he did was wrong.
