Rabbit intentionally run over is killed
Albuquerque, NM (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, May 8, 2005
County: Bernalillo

Disposition: Not Charged

Person of Interest: man

A family says they were about to save an animal's life, but instead watched as an injured rabbit was intentionally run over three times by an Albuquerque taxi cab.

The Poth family just finished breakfast at a restaurant near Menaul and Carlisle in northeast Albuquerque when they say they spotted an injured rabbit trying to cross the road.

"We had just got done with breakfast, and we saw a bunny in the middle of the road," says Tiffany Poth. "We noticed a cab slowly driving up, and we thought, oh, that's nice this person is going to help the poor bunny up"

However, the family claims the Albuquerque Cab Company driver intentionally ran over the injured rabbit, turned around and ran over it twice more.

The family says, after some trouble, they were finally able to file a report with the City of Albuquerque Animal Control. They hope the driver will face criminal charges.

Animal control wouldn't speak specifically about the incident. However, they say possible charges against the cab driver could range from a misdemeanor animal cruelty, or a more serious felony charge under a state statute.
