County: Jackson

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Barbara Ann Williams

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

Barbara Ann Williams, 48, of Phoenix, was arrested May 10 by Phoenix police on a felony animal abuse charge after she allegedly stomped to death a pet parrot named Max who belonged to her adult son, said Sarita Glassburner, a Jackson County deputy district attorney.

Phoenix Police Chief Bob Kershaw said Williams had been arguing with her son before the parrot was killed. She also faces misdemeanor charges of first- and second-degree animal abuse.

She was booked into jail and released on her own recognizance.

Individuals convicted of felony animal-abuse face a maximum $5,000 court fine and are not allowed to own pets for 15 years, Glassburner said. Offenders generally do not receive prison time, but could be required to serve a local jail sentence, she said.
