Sea lion shot Saint Helena, CA (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, Jun 30, 2004 County: Napa
Disposition: Open
Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
Shopper the sea lion had made his way up the Napa River to St. Helena and was in a vineyard when someone shot him repeatedly in July. A month after the body of the sea lion was discovered, a reward fund was set up by the Humane Society of Napa County. The group has amassed $20,000 for whoever helps nab the killer. Local businesses, residents and wildlife groups all donated to the fund.
Ed Matovcik, president of the Humane Society board of directors, said the reward expires on the one-year anniversary of Shoppers' death, July 5, and the group will return the money to donors. Donors will be given a chance to leave their donations with the Humane Society or turn it over to a permanent animal abuse prevention fund.
