A dozen dogs were removed from a southeast Houston home on May 6 after officials found them living in what they called deplorable conditions. Harris County animal cruelty investigators were sent to the 5200 block of Kingsbury at noon after neighbors complained.
Officials found 12 beagles inside. They were well-fed, but living in filth, according to authorities.
"The interior conditions of this house was just deplorable. The dogs' fecal matter was piled up. The urine was overwhelming in there," said Sgt. Mark Timmers, Harris County's animal cruelty investigator.
Timmers said the homeowner turned the house into a huge kennel.
"When we got out here, not only did we find abandoned animals from the front yard, but the house itself has no running water, no electricity. We could hear dogs barking from the inside. You can only imagine what it's like in there. And the dogs are just living in total filth," Timmers said.
Glen Williams owns the dogs and wants them back.
"I take care of my dogs," he said.
His friends said Williams paid good money for the hunting dogs.
"He took care of them. He fed them, took them to the vet, everything, so they wasn't no poor dogs," an unidentified friend said.
The Houston Humane Society took custody of the dogs. Pending a court hearing, the dogs could be placed up for adoption. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
