A man arrested on drug charges at farm where about 140 chickens were seized by authorities last fall was sentenced in court on Monday, May 9.
Bruce Senecal, Salina, was one of a group of people arrested by the I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force. The chickens and roosters were rounded up Oct. 11 on a farm at 1184 E. Old Highway 40 after Senecal and his wife, who rented the property, were arrested following a drug raid and evicted by their landlord. Cockfighting books and paraphernalia were found at the farm but no charges involving cockfighting were filed.
Bruce Senecal was also arrested a month later for additional drug charges, while free on bond from his first arrest. He was charged with having possession of 4.6 pounds of marijuana and about 1/4 pound of methamphetamine, Assistant Saline County Attorney Bobby Hiebert Jr. said Monday. Senecal told authorities he was selling drugs to support his family, Hiebert said.
District Judge Daniel Hebert noted in court that Senecal had a prior conviction on similar charges more than 10 years ago. The judge said Sencals behavior did not support rehabilitation via probation.
It sounds like to me an example of pure economic self-interest, Hebert said.
For the two most serious charges, possession of marijuana and methamphetamine, each with the intent to sell, Senecal received sentences of 22 and 15 months, to run consecutively, for a total of 37 months in prison. The remaining drug counts against him were ordered to run at the same time as the primary two charges. References« Back to Search Results
