Charles Randell "Randy" Cross, was charged with with four felony counts of animal cruelty.

Cross is accused of not taking seven German shepherds to a veterinarian after learning three years ago that they had sarcoptic mange, police Officer Greg Hattle said. The itchy skin condition went untreated, causing the dogs to lose hair and develop skin lesions and calluses, , officials stated.

"One of the dogs was practically bald," Hattle said. "About the only fur left on it was on top of its head and on the tip of its tail."

Hillsborough County Animal Services evaluated the dogs' health May 11 in the afternoon after Cross' arrest. Dennis McCullough, investigations supervisor, said the dogs likely would be humanely killed. Cross was being held at Orient Road Jail on Wednesday night with bail set at $8,000. He listed the this home as his mailing address, public records show, but Hattle said it appeared he was living elsewhere.
