Authorities in East New York are searching for the person who maliciously threw a lit match on a six month old dog, severely burning it.

This six-month-old beagle mix didn't stand a chance. He only weights about 35 pounds and he was all alone when someone viciously attacked him. His name is Snoop and he has burns on 80 percent of his body. Both of the pup's ears are charred.

This whole, unsettling chain of events began several weeks ago. Snoop was suffering with some kind of skin condition and the 18-year-old owner's neighbors suggested rubbing motor oil on it to treat the problem. Shelter officials say the dog is saturated with the oil, which of course is not the right way to treat the dog.

On May 10, at around 5:30 p.m. someone threw a lit match at the dog, which quickly caught on fire. It all happened inside a building at 345 Fountain Avenue. Doctors say snoop will need extra care and this afternoon he was transferred from the Animal Care and Control's Brooklyn Shelter to the ASPCA hospital in Manhattan.

Ruth Allen, Shelter Mngr., Animal Care and Control: "I couldn't believe that the dog was actually set on fire. You can smell the burns from his coat and it was really bad. It was all black - all of the hair around his back was totally singed."

Investigators don't have any idea why some one may have done this although the owners says several people in the neighborhood knew she was treating the dog with the oil and feels they were just being vicious and cruel.

Police do have several names and they want to talk to the people. The shelter here has posted a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
